This month’s travel link up is all about the festive season and there are some key things that happen every December that fill me with festive feelings so thought I would add to the link-up with my contribution.
I used to just be happy with a chocolate advent calendar but ever since the other half bought me a You Beauty advent calendar a couple of years ago (maybe I should have taken offence at this!) it has changed the game completely! There are now lots of different beauty calendars on the market and after having the Selfridges one last year I am back to the You Beauty one as I love getting almost full-sized products and money off vouchers behind every window. Of course I couldn’t leave the other half out so he always gets a Lego calendar as as seen as this year sees the release of Star Wars (another of his favourite things) it had to be a Star Wars themed one!
I love a good Christmas tree, real ones are of course preferable as the smell is just amazing but I’ve come to be quite happy with our artificial one for the moment. That doesn’t stop me looking at other trees though and being able to appreciate them in all their beauty.
Going to see a West End show
Being a drama teacher I end up at the theatre quite a lot with work but over the Christmas break I love being able to go see a show with friends and family, as I’ve almost seen everything in the West End the pick is getting smaller each year and I would love to have seen Elf as it’s brand new but very expensive. My Mum and I are going to the Royal Opera House to see the Ballet the Nutcracker instead, and as we’re going on Christmas Eve this should get us feeling truly in the festive spirit.
Every year the wait to start watching christmas films gets me the most excited about Christmas being on its way! By about November I start asking the other half if I can watch my favourite Elf, and every year he makes me wait until the 1st December (most of the time I sneakily watch it before anyway!) In my opinion there is no better way to spend a weekend in December than on the sofa, snuggled up watching a classic such as Miracle on 34th Street or The Muppets Christmas Carol.
Of course the main event, the food! The only time of the year where it’s an unwritten rule that you are allowed to eat as much as you possibly can of all the most richest and delicious food you can lay your chops on! For the whole 30 years of my life on this Earth I have eaten christmas dinner lovingly prepared by Mum but this year we are hosting and will be cooking up a storm in our kitchen instead! I am nervous as this is what we have to compete with..
We’ve planned the food shop down to the tiniest detail and ordered our turkey back in November so feel pretty organised on this front, I can’t wait to start getting tucked into all the food – as soon I finish school on the 18th December that’s when the festivities can properly begin with the first gourmet picnic of many!
What puts you in the festive spirit and gets you excited about the holiday season? Would be really interested to hear below and see if you’re the same as me!
